Wednesday 9 November 2022 – Ride on the Merri Creek Trail

The photo below of the riding group is in Coburg on the Merri Creek Trail.

The riders stopped for a coffee and a chat at a coffee shop in Fairfield.

The Wednesday cycling group rides a little further than the Thursday group. We have 2 regular rides, one up and down the Diamond Creek Trail starting at Eltham and the other from University Hill along the Ring Road Trail, down the Merri Creek Trail to Fairfield and then back up the Darebin Creek Trail.

Every second week, we do a different ride often starting in different locations. These rides take us to places such as Craigieburn, Jells Park, Ricketts Point, Altona, Oakleigh and Belgrave, on a mixture of paths and roads. The rides are usually about 50 km long and there is always a coffee stop along the way.

As an example, a ride late last year took 7 of us from Eaglemont down the Main Yarra/Capital City Trail to Burnley, south on the Gardiners Creek Trail and through some back streets to Caulfield. There we picked up the Djerring Trail to Oakleigh where we stopped for coffee and food at one of the many Greek cafes in the village. The return trip took us along the Outer Circle Linear Park Trail, through the Urban Forrest, up the Anniversary Trail and back to the start. The ride was enjoyed by all despite the persistent drizzle on the ride back.

More recently, 9 riders took the Eastlink Trail, then the Dandenong Creek Trail to The Basin where we had coffee. One of us tackled the I in 20 to Sassafras.
